AccuWeb steering roll assemblies

Accurate web alignment for demanding converting and web processing applications

For over 40 years, AccuWeb has been the trusted leader in custom web guiding systems, helping manufacturers maintain precise web handling, improve product quality, reduce waste, and maximize production efficiency. AccuWeb Steering Roll Assemblies provide accurate web alignment by steering the web to its desired position rather than moving the guide assembly itself. This approach makes steering roll guides an ideal solution where sufficient web span is available and smooth, continuous web handling is critical to production performance.

Why use steering roll assemblies?

Steering roll assemblies maintain web position by steering the web path rather than moving the guide assembly itself. The moving frame pivots around a theoretical pivot point on the incoming web span, continuously correcting web alignment while maintaining smooth material flow throughout the process.

Benefits:

  • Accurate web alignment and web position control
  • Smooth correction at production speeds
  • Flexible installation options
  • Custom-engineered solutions or unique applications
  • Ideal for converting, printing, packaging and web handling applications

When to use a steering roll assembly

Steering roll assemblies are often preferred when sufficient web span is already available and the application benefits from steering the web path rather than moving the entire guide assembly.

Consider a steering roll assembly when:

  • Web spans are available for steering geometry
  • Smooth web handling is critical
  • Machine footprint must be minimized
  • Wide-web applications require precise alignment
  • Custom web paths are needed
  • Production efficiency and product quality are top priorities

Choose the right steering roll assembly for your application

  • Web width range: SR-AP for narrow to mid-width webs or SR-FS for medium to wide-web and high-tension applications
  • Construction: SR-AP for anodized aluminum plate or SR-FS for structural steel tube
  • Performance level: SR-AP for fast response & low inertia or SR-FS for maximum strength & durability
  • Response characteristics: SR-AP for fast frequence response or SR-FS for stable performance under high loads
  • Design flexibility: SR-AP for standard & custom assemblies or SR-FS for extensive custom engineering options
  • Installation options: SR-AP for vertical, horizontal, inverted or SR-FS for vertical, horizontal, inverted
  • Maintenance: SR-AP for easy wipe-down surfaces or SR-FS for durable industrial construction
  • Ideal industries: SR-AP for packaging, labels, films, nonwovens or SR-FS for paper, corrugated, wide-web converting, metal processing

SR-AP series

Lightweight performance for narrow and mid-width webs

The SR-AP series features durable anodized aluminum plate construction that delivers a high strength-to-weight ratio and fast frequency response. These assemblies are ideal for narrow and mid-width web applications where responsiveness and precision are critical.

Best for

  • Flexible packaging
  • Film converting
  • Label production
  • Coating and laminating
  • Clean room applications

SR-FS series

Heavy-duty guiding for wide web applications

The SR-FS series utilizes structural steel tube construction to provide exceptional strength and design flexibility for wide-web and high-tension applications. Custom configurations, multiple finish options, and robust construction make the FS Series ideal for demanding industrial environments.

Best for

  • Wide-web converting
  • Paper production
  • High-tension processes
  • Sheeting applications
  • Custom engineered systems

Single roll steering (SRSR)

Single Roll Steering uses one steering roll to redirect the web path and maintain alignment. This design is commonly used when the web needs to move in a different direction than it was before the guiding process, usually a 90-degree turn. The diagram illustrates the steering geometry and theoretical pivot point.

Advantages

  • Compact footprint
  • Simplified installation
  • Effective web correction
  • Lower mechanical complexity

Double roll steering (DRSR)

Double roll steering uses two rolls to create additional steering correction while maintaining smooth web handling. This design is commonly used when the web needs to keep moving in the same direction as it was before the guiding process. The diagram highlights how the theoretical pivot point and steering geometry work together to maintain web alignment.

Advantages

  • Increased correction capability
  • Greater steering authority
  • Excellent web alignment control
  • Flexible process integration

Key features

  • Proprietary linear bearing system
Cam follower bearings running in hardened tracks minimize friction and wear while delivering fast, repeatable steering response.
  • Flexible installation
Install vertically, horizontally, or inverted for maximum application flexibility.
  • Standard and custom configurations
Choose from standard assemblies or custom-engineered solutions designed for unique production requirements.
  • Free-turning idler rollers
Dynamically balanced rollers and free-running bearings ensure smooth, vibration-free operation.
